And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
When I was younger, I thought how could Christ know how to succor me when he has not experienced the problems of modern day. Does Christ understand what it is like to be in college struggling to learn, taking tests, having many assignments and papers to complete? Did Christ experience abuse from the hand of someone he loved? Did Christ experience a serious illness that took away his physical strength, that prevented him from doing as he desired? Did Christ raise a family with all the stress and struggle that entails? Did Christ lose a loved one and experience the separation of death? Did Christ lose a job with the pressures of providing for a family. The list is unending of the trials and struggles we experience in this life. I testify that Christ does know how to succor us. He took upon himself not only our sins and mistakes but all of our pain, all of our suffering, all of our worries, all of our fears in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knows.
I love this song
"Gethsemane
Jesus loves me
So he went willingly
to Gethsemane."
