Desire to Believe

If ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.

Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart...

ye shall reap the rewards of your faith, and your diligence, and patience, and long-suffering, waiting for the tree to bring forth fruit unto you.  Alma 32

We have had the opportunity to join the missionaries in Japan for several lessons with a woman learning about the gospel.  She asked an important question which lead us to search the scriptures.  Her question was, "Why does God require faith? The Apostle Paul saw a vision before he converted.  Wouldn't it be easier for God to just tell us the truth rather than search for answers ourselves?"

  • Faith requires us to trust the Lord even when we don't understand all things.
  • Holy Ghost is a more sure witness that is hard to deny.  His communication to our spirit carries far more certainty than any communications we can received through our natural senses.
  • Faith requires action before knowing, which leads to a confirmation of the truth.
  • Faith gives you power to do whatever is needed in Christ.
  • Faith in the Savior can heal us and gives us peace.

We don't know what our children will become but we look forward with an eye of faith to their future.  We see the fruit of our faith in the lives of our children.

  7. Love your scriptural reference! It makes me reflect upon the following thoughts:

To Love God first and our neighbors as our self, and upon these two great commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Charity, which is the pure love of God--"the how to for living any gospel principle"--is a scripture with a promise that it cannot fail and endures all things. Alma 32 is a beautiful example of charity in action upon the principle of faith--the first principle and ordinance of the gospel of Jesus Christ, as stated in the Fourth Article of Faith.

As we know, opposition exists in all things. The fruits of the spirit of God are in direct opposition to the bitter fruits of the natural man and the mortal world around us. If we compare both fruits and liken them to trees, which do we want to cultivate, nurture and partake of? Alma 32 invites us to choose a path of faith and how to obtain it, backed by a promise it cannot fail. Did not God say in the scriptures prove me now herewith?
