Moved to Salt Lake City

We have moved to Salt Lake City while we wait for our visas to Japan. We are working remotely with the Kobe Japan Office from our third story apartment. The office is open from 6 PM to 3 AM our time. They are training us on our new responsibilities as office missionaries. We have already received assignments for evenings, nights, and early morning meetings. Flexibility is the name of the game.

We wear church clothes everyday which creates all kinds of issues like wearing shoes that look good but we are still able to walk in them for miles.  How do you keep your good clothes clean while you cook and eat?  Our badges say, ”Elder/Sister Allan---Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” in Japanese.  I’ve learned two things about wearing this badge.

1.     People you don’t know come up and talk to you without you even saying anything.
2.    When you have the name of Jesus Christ on your name tag, you better make sure your actions are consistent with being a follower of Christ.

We are enjoying living in Salt Lake.  Our apartment is two blocks from the Salt Lake Temple.  The temple is under a 4-year renovation project including supporting the foundation for potential earthquakes. You can see the progress in the picture.

We also enjoy walking around the Utah State Capitol grounds and Memorial Park.  We even tried a steep bike ride up City Creek Canyon.  We were only able to go 4 miles up due to the mountain climb.  I don’t think we pedaled the entire ride down. I was wondering why they had a bicycle speed limit.

We have discovered that the Church Office Building has delicious healthy lunch for very reasonable price. We are now eating dinner for lunch and lunch for dinner.

BONUS: No cooking!!

  2. Great to hear you're keeping late hours. I suspect the time difference has resulted in a little sacrifice for you. Enjoyed reading about your experiences in the mission field. Thank you for your service. We look forward to hearing more from you and we're praying that the way will be open for missionaries to return to more countries including Japan for Elder and Sister Allan.

  5. Hi Paula and Fred. It sounds like you've settled in and keeping all kinds of strange hours. I'm sure that both of you are enjoying the time you spend working together. How has the weather been? I think of you both often.

  6. Hey Paula Hey Fred ... I remember when my uncle who lived not far from you due to advanced age had to give up riding bikes down North Temple because of going too fast. You can easily go lickity split down those hills. Tell Fred he looks really cool with his earbuds ... just like the millennials. LOL. Have fun !!
