Waters of baptism




Another blessing of waiting…..This weekend we had the opportunity to fly to Illinois for our granddaughter’s baptism.  It is so wonderful to share this special time with Lily and her family. I love watching our grandchildren grow. Each one has their own personality and strengths.  Lily loves beautiful things, especially flowers.  When I see flowers, I think of her.


 


Baptism is a covenant we make to follow the Savior.  It is symbolic of leaving behind the old person and becoming new. I remember thinking as an 8-year-old that I wanted to be perfect so that I could be as clean as I was on the day I was baptized.  I didn’t understand that Jesus Christ provided a way for us to be clean through repentance and change.  I am grateful for the opportunity to be renewed and try again to become better. 



No news on Japan.  The COVID cases are rising in Japan as they are in other parts of the world.  At the Church History Library, I was reading journal entries this week from 1918.  It is interesting to see that the Spanish Flu continued to interrupt activities even 2 years after that pandemic.  I could relate to the journal entries because of our current situation.

    I am sorry about Japan. I would love to read those journal entries! I bet they also thought that the second coming was fast approaching 😂 what a beautiful blessing to be able to see your granddaughter getting baptized! God is in control ❤️

    It was nice to see you Paula and Fred and attend the special baptism of Lily.
    I love your missionary letters, Missionary letters are the BEST, I always feel inspired to do better when I read your letters.

10 more days-- our mission is coming to a close. What an amazing experience this has been!! We have seen God's hand in our life in so many ways. We feel the windows of heaven have been opened to us that there is not even room to receive it. We have grown closer to each other and closer to the Lord. We arrived when the sakura trees were blooming. Now, they are blooming again. Walking under the blossoms gives you a sacred feeling that you are somewhere very special. This is my favorite walking path. There is a lady who cares for these flower boxes every day. I have enjoyed seeing them on my way to the river walk. Today, I saw a miracle with the ward choir. They asked me to lead the choir when we first arrived. I have sang in many choirs, all of my life. I have never led a choir. We are so grateful!!

We were so blessed to have Mike and Laura visit us from Utah.   The President and Sister Halvorson with four missionaries opened two apartments without us so that we could spend time with my daughter and her husband. We are so grateful!! We had many things we wanted to show Laura and Mike.  They also had a long list of things to do.  She showed me many things I didn't even know existed in Kyoto including the Bamboo Forest, Monkey Park, and Fushimi Inari Shrine. Fushimi Inari Shrine Bamboo Forest Monkey Park It is always wonderful to spend time with our family. We feel refreshed and ready our next 6 months in Japan. This weekend was General Conference in Japan. They wait one week due to the time difference.  We enjoyed listening to the prophet and apostles share messages of hope and encouragement. We will continue to study these messages and seek to apply them in our life. I especially love the new "For the Strength of Youth." It is focused on growing closer to the Savior

38 years of happiness

 This was a busy week and we accomplished much. We opened 3 apartments which includes preparing the furnishings, moving, and setting up the apartments.  We had several strong missionaries helping us with these tasks.  These missionaries dedicate up to two years of their lives to the service of the Lord. They are strong and valiant. They serve with a lot of energy. Their faith and diligent attitude is impressive.  Their purpose is to bring people to Jesus Christ.  This scripture about the stripling warriors in the Book of Mormon describe the young missionaries serving in Kobe: "And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all-- they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted." Alma 53:20 We also welcomed more missionaries to the mission.  We have doubled our mission in a few weeks.  My work as nurse has picked up with missionaries getting sick and a coup
